Are you friendly, able to listen, initiate conversation and make people feel at ease? Our carer groups need you. ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY We are looking for friendly and reliable volunteers to support or host our monthly support groups throughout city and county of Nottingham alongside our Carers Hub support staff. You will interact with carers of all ages and disabilities ensuring they feel welcomed and involved, help set up the venue, welcome people, serve drinks and assist to facilitate activities. The groups are an informal setting for carers to share experiences, support each other, gain knowledge, friendships and feel valued. There may be visiting health professional to speak to the group on relevant subjects enabling carers to gain knowledge and ask questions. All carers need to have their chance to speak and be heard. We work with over 800 local carers and the people they care for, supporting people of all ages and disabilities, providing carers with essential breaks from the stress of caring. A carer is someone of any age who provides unpaid support to family or friends whose health or wellbeing could suffer without this help. Personal Qualities - -Punctuality and reliability -Empathy and the ability to be calm and patient -A good understanding of the importance of confidentiality and a respect for the privacy of others -Flexibility and the ability to operate within the boundaries of the role -A friendly and sensitive approach -Excellent listening skills and an ability to build a rapport with others -The ability to respect the personal choice of lifestyles of colleagues, carers and people with care needs, ensuring that equal opportunities are always applied At Carers Trust East Midlands, we have spent years supporting carers, those unsung heroes who give up their lives to look after a loved one. We aim to support unpaid carers across the City and County of Nottingham to make new friendships, maintain existing ones and have a life outside their caring role. YOU WILL BE SUPPORTING -Carers over 18 years old -Carers with their own disabilities and difficulties EXPECTATIONS -Hours to suit between Mon-Fri Induction & Training -Volunteers are supported with a comprehensive induction session before commencement. The training will be relevant to your voluntary role and provide the opportunity to gain valuable skills. -It is a requirement for all volunteers working with vulnerable adults and children to undertake a Disclosure and Barring Service check at an enhanced level. -We reimburse travel costs and will cover the cost of the DBS check. We appreciates all our volunteers and their valuable time they give to others. Volunteering is a rewarding experience for the volunteer and will make a huge difference to carers lives.
